Percy Medicine History

Our story begins in 1898 with a baby named Albert Percy who became ill on a train ride from New York to Texas. As baby Percy was becoming worse his father, A.W. Percy, a buggy whip salesmen, at that time, desperately wanted to find a cure for his sick son. When they arrived in Kentucky he quickly disembarked with his family to seek a doctor. As luck with would it A.W. Percy found Dr. McDonald, who prescribed a concoction, which immensely helped baby Percy and the parents were able to continue to Waco, Texas with clear, worried-free minds. The next time little Albert became ill his father gave the prescription to a chemist, W.S Merrick, and he prepared the same formula for the child. Once again baby Percy was cured and his family was relieved and the chemist was amazed at how quickly the child recovered. However, this time an idea was implanted in A.W Percy's and W.S Merrick's mind. They decided to go into business together in 1904 and create Baby Percy Medicine for all children and adults. A year later Percy and Merrick were joined in business by Frank Trau and Louis Collie. Both men worked for Waco Behrens Drug, and it was this combination of minds that launched the business into the public eye.

Percy Medicine Today

Over the years we have gained customers who have praised Percy Medicine for its remedy proprieties and who are still loyal to this day. Over the last 100 plus years there have been transitions. The product is no longer called “Baby Percy”, a change dating back to 1938. Percy Medicine headquarters is still in Waco, Texas, but the medicine is produced at a large pharmaceutical plant in East Texas and distributed by the Merrick Medicine Company. The current owner, Ruth Miller, is keeping Percy Medicine alive and moving forward.
